Department of Art Presents Visiting Artist Jeffry Mitchell

The Denison University Department of Art will present Vail visiting artist-in-residence Jeffry Mitchell for a talk at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (March 30) in the Cleveland Hall Annex, Room 104 (201 North Mulberry St.). The talk is free and open to the public.

Mitchell had a solo exhibition at the James Harris Gallerly, Seattle, last year of watercolors and ceramic sculpture. He also had exhibitions at the Fred and Jock Gallery in Vancouver, B.C. and at the Pulliam Deffenbaugh Gallery in Portland during 2004. Working in various media, Mitchell has exhibited domestic furniture, prints and drawings, paintings and pottery.

A visiting lecturer at numerous colleges and schools of art and design, he has been recognized with a Neddy Artist Fellowship Award from the Behnke Foundation, Seattle and a visual art fellowship from the Washington State Artist Trust. He is represented in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum of Harvard University, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the offices of Microsoft, Redmond, Wash., and SAFECO Insurance Company, Seattle.

Mitchell earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Dallas and a master of fine arts in printmaking from Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia.
