Denison presents ‘Power of Story’ at MLK breakfast event

Denison University will host a breakfast that includes a multi-media presentation, “The Power of Story,” featuring Denison alumni and students at 8:30 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 26, in the Welsh Hills Room of the Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). One in a series of events that celebrate the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the breakfast is free and open to the public, though reservations are required. Contact 740-587-6344 to reserve a place.

Video interviews with four Denison alumni will explore their lives and their histories with Denison. Dr. Sheila Little, a member of the class of ’72, holds an M.S. and Ph.D. from Harvard University and is a researcher in molecular biology. Ruth Fraley McNeil, a member of the class of ’86, formerly worked with Ohio Representative Deborah Price and was the project manager of the Compassion Capital Grant for the Ohio Governor’s Office. Dr. Orlando Taylor, a member of the class of ’57, is a pioneer in the field of communication and a leader in higher education. Founder and president of Raise Productions, a gospel music production company in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Raymond Wise, class of ’83, is a composer and choirmaster.

Current Denison seniors will discuss their experiences through audio interviews. Darrin Collins from Oak Park, Ill.; Courtney Herring from Clarkston, Mich.; Charisse Mandimika from Zimbabwe; and Donterio Porter from Little Rock, Ark., will explore their lives and the changes they have seen at Denison.

The dialogues will be introduced by Erik S. Farley ’03, assistant dean of students and director of Multi-Cultural Student Affairs, and Jennifer Vestal, associate dean of students and director of the Academic Support & Enrichment Center.
