Posted: January 23, 2009 / Last Updated: February 10, 2009

Denison University’s celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Marin Luther King Jr. continues with the Jeff Stetson play “The Meeting” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, in Slayter Auditorium (200 Ridge Road). Sponsored by the 2009 Martin Luther King Committee, the Office of Student Activities, and the Black Student Union, this event is free and open to the public.

In “The Meeting,” Stetson imagines what a meeting might have been like between King and Malcolm X. It is set in February 1965 and examines both the public and private lives—the clash of ideas and tactics for the advancement of freedom, but also the humanity of two devout men of faith, who are loving fathers and husbands, and leaders willing to lay down their lives for the cause of justice.

Stetson is the recipient of eight NAACP Theater Image awards for “The Meeting.” A winner of many national drama awards whose work has been performed at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, he also has scripted projects for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Productions and Warner Bros. He is currently commissioned by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
