GRANVILLE — The Denison Museum will feature a public lecture on “Conservation: Saving Denison’s Prints” at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 27, in the Presidents Room at the William Howard Doane Library (400 West Loop). The lecture will discuss the process of how to preserve the print and drawing collection at the Denison Museum. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The Denison Museum received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in 2007 in order to preserve its print and drawing collection. The purpose of the grant was to be able to remove the improper adhesives and tapes from about 1,000 prints in order to improve the overall condition of the pieces and of the collection as a whole. The lecture will serve to explain the plans of the IMLS project, which will be ongoing through September 2009.
Those speaking on this issue include the Denison Museum Curator of Collections, Anna Cannizzo; graduate conservation student intern, Stephanie Jewell; and Denison University student intern, Cara Lovati. After the lecture there will be a Q & A session in which a representative from the Intermuseum Conservation Association will be able to answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
