– “Before, During and After: The Story of a Work,” is the title of a new exhibition featuring works by artist, critic and poet, Marjorie Welish. The opening reception is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 11, in the Denison Museum (240 West Broadway, Granville). “Before, During and After: The story of a work” is drawn from both Welish’s work and sources and responses to her book “Oaths? Questions?”. These sources and responses include: “High Valley 19, 1983-84,” the painting which inspired the art; a series of works on paper responding to the book; several paintings created in ongoing dialogue with the book; and the book, “Of the Diagram: The Work of Marjorie Welish,” that consists of papers given at a conference on her writing and art at the University of Pennsylvania.
Welish is a Fulbright Senior Roster Fellowship recipient studying at the University of Frankfurt, Germany and Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. Her writing on art has appeared in many art publications.
The Denison Museum is open daily from noon to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from noon to 7 p.m. during the academic year (with the exception of holidays and college breaks) or by appointment.
