Author Scott Nadelson Visits Denison for Beck Series Reading

The Beck Visiting Writers Series for the fall 2005 semester closes with a presentation and reading from Scott Nadelson, author ofSaving Stanley: The Brickman Stories, at 8 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 1) in the Barney Davis Board Room. His presentation is free and open to the public.

Nadelson, recipient of this year's Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award in Fiction, will read selections from his award-winning bookSaving Stanley. Nadelson's interrelated short stories explore the vagaries of an ordinary Jewish family, the Brickmans, a family of four living in suburban New Jersey.Saving Stanley, which is Nadelson's first published collection, was awarded the 2004 Oregon Book Award for Short Fiction. A new collection of his stories,The Cantor's Daughter, has just been published.

Nadelson currently lives in Portland, Ore., where he teaches writing at Willamette University and Clark College and is part of the Portland Writers in the Schools program. His fiction has appeared in American Literary Review, The Del Sol Review, Gobshite Quarterly, Carve Magazine, and The Best of Carve, Vol. 3.
