GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University announced that President Dale T. Knobel has been selected to the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) at the board’s annual meeting this February in Washington, D.C. Knobel will serve as secretary of the national higher education organization. Knobel became a member of NAICU’s Board of Directors in 2010 and also serves NAICU on the administration committee and on the committee on tax policy.

As a member of the executive committee of the NAICU board, Knobel will help lead the association’s agenda on federal higher education policy; actively encourage support of NAICU priorities and initiatives; and oversee the association’s financial administration.

“Independent colleges and universities add much to the richness of American higher education and often have provided leadership for educational innovation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. It’s essential that the nation’s private colleges and institutions have the opportunity to share a distinctive voice when addressing issues of education and public policy. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be part of the leadership team for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.”

NAICU is the largest national organization representing  private, nonprofit colleges and universities. The association represents American independent higher education on national policy issues and federal regulations, such as those affecting student aid, taxation, and accreditation. NAICU’s more than 1,000 member colleges and universities enroll nine out of every 10 students attending private, nonprofit institutions in the United States.
