National Eating Disorders Awareness Week events at Denison

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week takes place February 20-26. Denison University will participate with several events to provide information and raise awareness of eating disorders. According to the National Institutes of Health, eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating, can cause heart and kidney problems and even death.

•    “Nutrition Myths,” lecture by Sonja Stotz, director of nutrition services at the Center for Balanced Living, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, in the lecture hall of the Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). Free and open to the public.
•    WDUB 91.1 FM radio show, “Eat Up the Airwaves,” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23. Anne Moss ’11 and Elizabeth Milo ’11 discuss eating disorders with special guest speakers.
•    “Killing Us Softly 4” film and discussion at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the lecture hall of the Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). Discussion led by Jill Gillespie, assistant professor of the Women’s Studies Program. Free and open to the public.
•    Walking Hand in Hand Toward Eating Disorder Awareness 5K Run/Walk at noon on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Lamson Lodge (200 Washington Drive). Free and open to the public; first 50 participants receive a free T-shirt.
