Two speakers will address students and community members at Denison this evening (Monday, Feb. 2) on topics in the historical record. Eric Neilsen, director of the Organizational Development and Analysis Program at Case Western University's Weatherhead School of Management, will discuss "Organizational Evolution in the Context of U.S. History." His lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. and is in the Burton Morgan Center Lecture Hall.

Also set for 7:30 p.m. is Herman Graham's discussion of "Black Power G.I.s: African American Soldiers and the Fight for Manhood During the Vietnam War." Graham's lecture is a Global Studies Seminar and will be in the Shephardson College Room (formerly the faculty lounge) on the fourth floor of Slayter Hall.

Nielson will explore what factors influence the changing forms and functions of organizations -- the consequences of historical events, economic changes and the political climate, as well as less commonly noted factors such as the natural topographical features of the United States, work force values, and the growth of technology.

Assistant Professor Graham, who joined the Denison history department faculty in 1999, earned his bachelor's degree at Yale and his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania. He has authored "The Brothers' Vietnam War" which was published last year and "Black and Navy Too: How African-American Sailors of the Vietnam Era Asserted Manhood Through Black Power Militancy," which was published in the Journal of Men's Studies in 2001.
