Denison's Swasey Observatory open house postponed until a later date

Cancellation Notice: The Swasey Observatory open house scheduled for Saturday, April 24, has been cancelled because of cloudy conditions. Another open house will be scheduled at a later date. Call 740-587-6477 for updates.
As part of the ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of Swasey Observatory, the Denison University Department of Physics and Astronomy will host an open house beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at the observatory (300 Chapel Drive). The open house will focus on the Moon, Saturn, and Mars, and is free and open to the public. (It has rescheduled from its original Friday evening time because of cloudy conditions.)
Denison’s Swasey Observatory opened in June 1910. If skies are clear, visitors will use the Warner & Swasey 9” refracting telescope in the observatory’s dome and at least one 8” reflecting telescope set up at ground level. The telescopes will be accessible until 11 p.m. In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the open house will be further postponed or cancelled. Visitors should call the observatory at 740-587-6477 where a message will be left by 5 p.m. if the event will be canceled or rescheduled.
