The Denison University Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Swasey Observatory open house beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, with one possible rain date set for Sunday, Oct. 25. The first clear night of the two possible dates will be the only night on which the observatory will be open. Observations will be made of the Moon and Jupiter. The open house is free and open to the public.

Denison’s Swasey Observatory opened in 1910. Visitors will use the Warner & Swasey 9” refracting telescope in the observatory’s dome and at least one 8” reflecting telescope set up at ground level. The telescopes will be accessible until 10 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. To determine if the observatory will be closed due to weather conditions, contact the observatory that afternoon at 740-587-6477; a recorded message will be left if there is a cancellation for that night.
