The “Open Shutters Iraq” project, a photography exhibition with an accompanying documentary film, will open at Denison University with a reception at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, in the Bryant Arts Center (210 West College Street). The exhibition will continue through Dec. 14. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
Open Shutters examines the human reality of war through the eyes of nine Iraqi women. The exhibition consists of photographic and written essays created in 2007 by these women who came from all over the country and from widely differing social and political backgrounds. Their photos and words express, in an evocative and deeply personal way, how they felt about what was happening around them. The images have been referred to as extraordinary photos taken by ordinary women.
