Denison University Orchestra to Perform Winter Concert

The Denison University Orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Professor Nicolas del Grazia, will present a concert with the works of three composers at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The concert, one of the events offered at Denison during Granville's Candlelight Walking Tour, is free and open to the public.

The concert program features "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1" by Georges Bizet and "Symphony No. 2 'Little Russian'" by Peter Tchaikovsky. The orchestra also will feature the world premiere of "Awakening"; by Associate Professor HyeKyung Lee, which she wrote specifically for the Denison Orchestra.

del Grazia, a clarinetist, joined the Denison faculty in 2003 after earning a bachelor's degree at the City University, London, England, and also studied at the Guildhall School of Music. He earned a master's degree at King's College London and a doctorate in music at Indiana University.

HyeKyung Lee earned a bachelor's degree at YonSei University in Seoul, Korea. She received her graduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin where she studied composition, electronic music and piano. She also studied at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida and at the Czech-American Summer Music Institute in Prague. Numerous artists have performed or recorded her compositions, and Lee herself, an accomplished pianist, is featured on several CDs.
