Fair Trade Expert and DU Alumnus Rick Peyser '72 Returns to Campus

Rick Peyser, Denison class of '72 and director of social advocacy and coffee community outreach for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, will participate in a series of events at Denison University on Monday, March 24. Sponsored by Denison University Fair Trade Alliance (DUFTA) and the environmental studies department, the first event is a panel discussion at 12:30 p.m. in Slayter 3rd floor (200 Ridge Road). Denison faculty members Jim Pletcher, associate professor of political science; Isis Nusair, assistant professor of international and women's studies; and Gary Baker, professor of modern languages and director of international studies; will discuss the topic "What is our role as members of an affluent society in impacting communities in developing countries?"

Peyser lectures at 7:30 p.m. in Slayter Auditorium (200 Ridge Road) on "Fair Trade Coffee in a Free Trade World." He will speak about the tremendous challenges faced by small-scale coffee farming families and will discuss ways that, as consumers, we can make a difference in helping these families improve the quality of life for themselves and their communities.

The environmental studies program will sponsor a post-lecture fireside chat at 8:30 p.m. on Slayter 3rd floor (200 Ridge Road). All events are free and open to the public.
