David Plouffe, political strategist and chief architect of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, will speak at 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 25, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The event is sponsored by the Denison Democrats. Plouffe will lecture on “Leadership and Lessons from the 2008 Campaign.” A reception and book signing will follow immediately after the lecture in Burton D. Morgan Center Welsh Hills Room (150 Ridge Road). Both events are free and open to the public.

Praised by President Obama in his acceptance speech as “the unsung hero of this campaign,” Plouffe received credit for the 2008 presidential campaign’s strategy in successfully clinching the Democratic Party nomination. Plouffe was awarded both the Titanium and Integrated Grand Prix awards from the 2009 International Advertising Festival for the Obama/Biden presidential campaign’s digital savvy, community-building, and consumer influence in shaping the Obama brand.

Beginning his political career with the 1990 re-election campaign of Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, Plouffe has contributed to a number of political campaigns. He served as deputy chief of staff and executive director for Democratic Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. As a partner at AKPD Message and Media, Plouffe worked on Barack Obama’s 2004 Illinois senate campaign as well as his 2008 presidential campaign. He is the author of The New York Times bestseller, “The Audacity to Win: The Inside Story and Lessons of Barack Obama’s Historic Victory.”
