Date of Event: April 11, 2008

Posted: March 31, 2008 / Last Updated: April 1, 2008

Once again Denison students and members of the community will gather in the Mitchell Recreation and Athletics Center (200 Livingston Drive) to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s "Relay For Life." Last year, the students raised an impressive $71,000. According to Averi Frost ’08, student co-chair of Denison’s Relay For Life, the goal for 2008 is $80,000. Relay For Life opening ceremonies begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11. They include a performance at 5:15 p.m. by the Denison a capella group the “Hilltoppers.” The Relay continues all night, and closing ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.

Also on Friday. Denison's Student Activities Council will sponsor a concert that opens with the band “Return of Simple” at 7:30 p.m. Then at 10 p.m., SAC will present a highly anticipated appearance by national rock act “Blessid Union of Souls.” The show is free and open to the public, but donations to the American Cancer Society are, of course, encouraged.

Other Friday evening events include musical entertainment by singer Ryan Wilkins at 6:15 p.m. and the traditional Luminaria Ceremony at 9 p.m. The Outlook Drag Show at midnight will include the imaginative designs of Denison men and women dressed in drag in a pageant-style beauty contest.

To participate in a team for this year’s Relay For Life, students and community members can go to http://events.cancer.org/rfldenisonuoh to register. All teams must register through the Web site to participate. Contact Averi Frost at 614-638-9909 for more information.
