GRANVILLE, Ohio—Rococoa Wind Quintet, a dynamic new ensemble consisting of music faculty from a number of Central Ohio universities, will make its concert debut with a free performance at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Denison University’s Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). For more information, contact Steve Rosenberg at 614-403-1526, rosenbergs@denison.edu, or visit www.denison.edu

For its debut concert, the Quintet will perform the North American premiere of Serenade for Wind Quintet by Israeli-American composer Jan Radzynski. The work alternates between melodic passages and driving rhythms evocative of Eastern Europe. The balance of the concert will feature music of Europe and the Americas, including works by Ástor Piazzolla, Julio Medaglia, Adrien Barthe and Juan Colomer.

Rococoa Wind Quintet derives its name from the late Baroque period called Rococo. They share a deep passion for the performance of great classical and contemporary chamber music and a collective love of chocolate. A signature feature of the ensemble will be the distribution of chocolate treats at the conclusion of every performance. Its members are: Karen Atria, bassoon; Nancy Gamso, clarinet; Leslie Maaser, flute; Steve Rosenberg, oboe; and Heidi Wick, horn. They teach at Denison University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Otterbein University, Kenyon College, and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.
