Marta Rodriguez

Marta Rodriguez, during her artist residency at Denison, will speak as part of the McGregor Connectives Initiative lecture series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in room 103 of Fellows Hall (300 West Loop). She also will have film screenings at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 14, in room 115 of the Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). The talk and screenings are free and open to the public.

Rodriguez is an internationally renowned Latin American documentary filmmaker who focuses on issues of social justice. Her films serve as testimonials to the struggles for human rights, documenting such issues as the precarious conditions of brick makers, the lives in internally displaced persons, the effects of pesticides on women workers in the flower industry and the effects of illegal crops on indigenous cultures. This year, for her life’s work, she won the prestigious Colombian National Award.

Rodriguez’s residency is co-sponsored by the McGregor Connections Initiative and the Department of Modern Languages. This year’s McGregor Connections theme is “Urbanscapes,” during which the campus community is exploring the relationship between people and the urban environment. Other speakers include erin d. mcclellan and Marina Peterson (Nov. 11), and Karl Sandin and Al Berthold (Nov. 11). For more information call 740-587-6206.
