GRANVILLE — Vail Visiting Artist Thomas Rosenkranz will perform a piano recital at Denison University’s Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The concert is free and open to the public.

Rosenkranz studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under Nelita True. Described as “in a league all his own” by the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, Rosenkranz was awarded the Classical Fellowship Award in 2003 from the American Pianists Association. The State Department has twice named Rosenkranz an artist ambassador, and he’s toured North Africa and the Middle East promoting American Music.

Rosenkranz often includes solo piano improvisations in his performances and has given lectures and training to classical musicians in the art of creative improvisation. He is founder and artistic director of the Hawaii Institute for Contemporary Music, artist-in-residence at the SoundSCAPE Festival in Italy, and a member of the piano faculty at Bowling Green University.
