Denison Theatre Presents Fable By Luigi Pirandello
Date of Event: November 9, 2001
Posted: October 30, 2001
Denison University theatre will continue its 2001-2002 season with the production of Luigi Pirandello'sRight You Are If You Think You Areat 8 pm Friday and Saturday (Nov. 9 and 10) and Tuesday through Saturday (Nov. 13 through 17) in Ace Morgan Theatre.
This brilliant play by the Nobel Prize-winning Italian playwright is an expressionistic parable set in a small town--a town with a secret its citizens are desperate to unravel. Pirandello weaves a fascinating fable that explores truth, vanity, the necessity of illusion, and the instability of human personality.
For this production we will be using masks, something that isn't done often these days," says director Rob Gander, " Theatre began with masks and they seem to have gone out of fashion. They fit well into this play and provide a great learning experience for the actors."
The play itself is about identity, the impossibility of knowing who someone really is, and the relativity of truth," Gander continued "The character's stories are diametrically opposed and form a mystery of who's right and who's wrong. It's hard to ascertain where the truth lies, and the masks help to feed into that concept."
Associate Professor Peter Pauze is the scenic and lighting designer for this production; Associate Professor Cynthia Turnbull is the costume designer. Junior Jessica Pitcairn (Cincinnati) is the stage manager and sophomore Jennifer McInnis (Antrim, N.H.) is the assistant stage manager.
The cast includes seniors Alix Berneis (Dexter, Mich.) as the Governor, Elizabeth Brammer (Shadyside) as Mrs. Nenni, Scott Esposito (Bentleyville) as Mr. Ponza, Evan Flowers (Delaware) as Mrs. Ponza, Jenn Hulbert (Louisville, Ky.) as Mrs. Amalia Agazzi, Rachel Morgan (Edmond, Okla.) as Mrs. Frola, and Natalie Pinero (Annapolis, Md.) as Mrs. Sirelli; juniors Matt Bolish (Bethel Park, Pa.) as Lamberto Laudisi, Tiana Gabriel (Cleveland Heights) as Mrs. Cini, and Jason Seltzer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) as Councilman Agazzi; sophomores Dan Burleson (Watertown, Wis.) as P.C.
