Date of Event: March 5, 2007

Posted: February 26, 2007

Two visiting lecturers -- Dan Boye and Jorg Schlinke -- will come to Denison as part of "The Art of Science and The Science of Art" series sponsored by the McGregor Connections Initiative.

Schlinke, an artist from Potsdam, Germany, who has exhibited widely in both Germany and the United States, will be in-residence for several days in early March with co-sponsorship from the department of art. During his residency at Denison, Schlinke will give a public lecture at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (March 6) in Cleveland Annex Room 104. Boye's Art/Science presentation -- "Harmony Within the Human Voice" -- is at 4:30 p.m. on Monday (March 5) in Room 114 of the Olin Science Hall.

Schlinke graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin-Weissensee, earning a master's degree in fine arts. He was the recipient of a DAAD grant to study in New York City for the 1995-96 academic year. He has exhibited sculpture, prints, painting, video and performance works since 1990 exploring themes such as the tensions between what is perceived and what really exists.

Schlinke also creates large-scale landscape sculptures that involve building a cement word into particular natural sites. Such an installation is planned for the cabin area of the Homestead with students from the art department and Homestead residents assisting him in selecting the site and the English word to be used. He also will have a question and answer session with students in the modern languages department and will create a work at the University's Homestead area.
