GRANVILLE, Ohio—“Sunny Days: Creative Risk-taking in Children’s Educational Television,” the opening convocation at Denison University, will feature members of the Sesame Street Workshop and Jim Henson Company. The event takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive) and will feature three panelists, including a creative performer/writer and a content researcher from “Sesame Street” as well as Rollie Krewson, master puppet designer for the Jim Henson Company and a member of the Denison class of 1974. The event, sponsored by Denison’s Spectrum Series, the Office of the President, and First-Year Programs, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Marlaine Browning at 740-587-6206 or visit www.denison.edu.
The panelists will discuss their roles in creating award-winning programs for “Sesame Street” and Jim Henson productions. Krewson, who joined the Jim Henson team soon after graduating from Denison, has won 12 Emmys for her creative work on “Sesame Street” and been nominated many times for her work on other Henson productions. Krewson has built Elmo for the last 26 years and is the designer/builder for Zoe and Abby Cadabby from “Sesame Street.” She was the three-dimensional designer for Red and Wembley from “Fraggle Rock” as well as Fizgig from the movie “Dark Crystal.”
Each year the Spectrum Series offers lectures, performances, exhibitions and academic programs relating to a specific theme. The theme for the 2012-13 academic year, “Creativity and Courage,” examines the places where creativity and courage intersect, encouraging innovative changes to emerge in art, culture, science and society.
