Denison Singers’ Theatre Workshop Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Spring Production

The Denison Singers’ Theatre Workshop will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with “10: The Anniversary Revue,” directed by Belinda Smith-Andrews and accompanied by Kevin Wines, at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The event is free and open to the public.
The performances will include one or more selections from Singers’ Theatre Workshop’s previous 19 productions since its creation in 1999. The Revue will feature soloists, trios, quartets, quintets and ensembles, performing musical, operetta and opera selections. These selections will include music from productions such as: “Urinetown,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” “Sondheim on Love,” “Iolanthe,” “The Pirates of Penzance,” “Honk!” and “The Secret Garden.” A number of alumni from the past ten years of Singer’s Theatre are returning to enjoy this anniversary performance.
The Singers’ Theatre Workshop provides Denison students with an opportunity to perform in a variety of different shows from Broadway musicals to light opera. Directed by Belinda Andrews-Smith and accompanied by Kevin Wines, this auditioned group of students presents a full production with scenery and costumes once every semester.
Andrews-Smith, the coordinator of vocal studies at Denison, earned her bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Bowling Green State University and her doctorate from the Ohio State University. She is a frequent performer with Opera Columbus and Columbus Light Opera.
“10: The Anniversary Revue” will feature graduating seniors: Megan Ansbro (Conneaut, Ohio), Davis Bourland (Columbus, Ohio), Carolyn Coppedge (Northbrook, Ill.) Raymond Havey (Wilmington, Ohio), Taryn Hicks (Newark, Ohio), Ben Jacoby (Maplewood, N.J.) Brynn Lewallen (Centennial, Colo.) Samantha Smith (Hudson, Ohio) and Jordan Wolff (Medina, Ohio).
