Denison faculty member Kristen Smith Stoner presents a flute recital featuring music by women composers at 8 p.m. on Friday (April 13) in Burke Recital Hall. This concert will be free and open to the public.

The program includes "Aubade" by Libby Larsen, "Steely Pause" for four flutes by Jennifer Higdon, "Pastorale" by Germaine Tailleferre, "Kokopeli" by Katherine Hoover, "East Wind" by Shulamit Ran and "Concertino" by Cecile Chaminade. Smith Stoner will also play two of her own compositions: "Naribue" and "Cape Cod-Short Suite for Flute and Oboe." All of the works are from the 20th century and are written in a wide variety of styles from neo-romantic, pastorale and evocative to more modern, powerful and triumphant.

Smith Stoner will be assisted by Nelson Harper on piano, Greg Dickinson on oboe, and the Denison Flute Trio made up of senior Laura Hagan (Lexington, Ky.) and juniors Mary Hallan (Okemos, Mich.) and Krista Wiseman (New Richmond).

Smith Stoner joined the faculty in September 1999. With wide experience as an orchestral and solo performer, she is an ethnomusicologist with interests in the music of Africa and Latin America.
