Posted: April 18, 2006

The Denison University Women's Choir will present a concert at Granville's St. Luke's Episcopal Church as part of the church's new series "Music at St. Luke's." The concert is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday (April 23) at the church (107 E. Broadway).

Joining the choir for this concert will be mezzo soprano Rachel Andrews, who is an affiliated instructor of vocal music at Denison, Scott Hayes, organist and choirmaster at St. Luke's, Brandon Helleman, horn player and a sophomore at Denison and Jeremy Grimshaw, an assistant professor at Denison who teaches music history. Associate Professor Bonnie Borshay Sneed, coordinator of choral activities at Denison, is conductor for this concert.

The Women's Choir will perform music by: Gustav Holst, a late-romantic composer best known for his work "The Planets"; Thomas Tallis, a British Renaissance composer whose sacred vocal music for the Anglican church is still widely performed; and Johann Sebastian Bach, the German baroque composer whose masterworks for organ and choir are known throughout the world. They also will perform Mulholland's "Heart" and will conclude the concert with a gospel piece featuring Grimshaw on the "djembe," a west African drum.
