Denison Singer's Theatre Workshop Presents Concert of 'Duets'

Posted: November 25, 2003

The Denison Singer's Theatre Workshop will present a concert of "Duets" at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 7) in Burke Recital Hall. This concert, featuring selections of duets and group numbers from many popular operas and musicals, is free and open to the public.

One of the highlights of the show is the number "Girls, Girls, Girls" from the opera "The Merry Widow" by Franz Lehar, the Franco-Austrian composer of the late-romantic period. Songs from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and "The Magic Flute" will be featured as well as numbers from "Hansel and Gretel" and "Street Scene."

The Singer's Theatre Workshop group is directed by Belinda Andrews-Smith, coordinator of vocal studies in the music department. Kevin Wines, a Denison Vail artist-in-residence, will accompany the group.

Andrews-Smith earned her bachelor's degree at Bowling Green University and both a master's and doctorate at Ohio State University, where she appeared in numerous productions of the Ohio State Opera Theatre program. Andrews-Smith appears regularly with Opera Columbus and the Columbus Light Opera and has sung with the Vivaldi Traveling Circus, Trinity Episcopal Church Chamber series and the Welsh Hills Symphony.

The concert features Singer's Theatre Workshop students: seniors Emily Baker, Morgan Koepke and Sarah Kronour; juniors Brian Giovanni, Jennifer Hart, Anusha Jogi, Tony Lai and David Tyler; sophomores Marten Carlson, Michael Goldsberry, Caitlin McCown, Emily Meagher, Curtis Plowgian, Taylor Pyles and Mary Sheridan; and first-year students Brittany Bradley, Chris Carr, Elizabeth Clay, Beth Corrigan, Kristen Cox, Katie Deeter, Erin Donovan, Danielle Gadomski, Christine Gellaty, Rachel Liber, Julie Rogers, and Jessie Siegel.
