“Alien Nation: A Recent ‘Bio’graphy”

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Banu Subramaniam will present “Alien Nation: A Recent ‘Bio’graphy” at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, in room 115 of Denison University’s Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). Subramaniam is an associate professor of women, gender and sexuality studies at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. The lecture is sponsored by the Laura C. Subramaniam researches the relationships between gender, race, colonialism and science. Primarily trained as a biologist, she is interested in building bridges between the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities to develop a “reconstructive” project for feminism and science. Subramaniam is currently working on a book manuscript titled “A Question of Variation: Gender, Race and the Practice of Science.”
 
The Laura C. Harris Symposium is dedicated to Dr. Harris’ memory as a revolutionary woman in the fields of education and medicine. The purpose of the lecture series, sponsored by Denison University’s Women’s Studies Program, is to encourage Denison women to continue seeking new educational and professional opportunities.
