Posted: October 18, 2012

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University will join the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) in celebrating National Campus Sustainability Day on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Several events will take place, many of which are free and open to the public. The capstone event is the Sustainability Fair, which will take place at 4 p.m. on the Academic Quadrangle. During the fair, various campus organizations including members of the Denison Sustainability Fellows, Denison Community Association, the Environmental Studies Program, People Endorsing Agricultural Sustainability and the Green Team will discuss their upcoming events and participants will create a “wall of sustainability” to artistically highlight the social, economic and environmental components of sustainability. Other events include:

·      Sustainability Pledge: Community members are invited to sign this pledge, which includes a commitment to recycle paper, glass, plastic and aluminum, to drink water from a reusable container and to reduce paper use by using electronic documents and printing on both sides of a paper. Pledge is available to sign at the Sustainability Fair.
·      Food and Culture Colloquium titled “Food Shock: How Courageous are you?” by Marilyn Andrew, director of International Student Services, at 4:30 p.m., in the auditorium of Slayter Hall (200 Ridge Road). Andrew will moderate a student panel discussion that will highlight the diversity of experiences and culinary heritages present on today’s campus; the challenges international students in particular face in expressing their cultural identity through food; and their responses to creatively approach such challenges with courage.
