The Denison University Department of Theatre will present “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment, The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as told by himself)” by Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19-20 and Feb. 23-27, in Ace Morgan Theatre (211 West College St.) on the Denison campus.

Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Mark Seamon, the play springs to life like a theatrical pop-up book as de Rougemont recounts his fantastic tale of being shipwrecked, living for decades with Aborigines, and even learning to ride sea turtles. This real-life Victorian gentleman, played by Skyler Jordan (Gahanna, Ohio), gained notoriety at the turn of the last century for his lectures, only to find that stardom was a fleeting thing, as his audiences became increasingly skeptical.

A huge company of characters (a dog, an Aborigine princess, an octopus expert, and Queen Victoria, to name just a few), join de Rougemont in re-enacting his wild wanderings and his troubled homecoming. They are played by Katherine Damisch (Northbrook, Ill.), Samantha Driver (Troy, Ohio), Elisabeth Giffin (Indianapolis), Jamie Merz (Jefferson, Mass.), Breanna Rankin (Boise, Idaho), Emily Schuman (New York City), and Eric Stachura (Perrysburg, Ohio). Allison Brogan (Lexington, Ohio) is the assistant director, Melissa Huber (Brookfield, Ohio) is the stage manager, Mariann Bostic (Norwood, Ohio) and Taylor Plas (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and are assistant stage managers.

Associate Professors of Theatre Peter Pauzé and Cynthia Turnbull are the scenic and costume designers, respectively; and technical director Andrew Johns is the lighting designer. Jennifer Stoessner, member of the Denison class of 2000, is a Vail Artist-in-Residence as puppet designer for the production.

Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for senior citizens and $4 for non-Denison students. To reserve seats and confirm information, contact 740-587-6527.
