Youthful String Trio to Appear at Denison
Posted: October 7, 2007 / Last Updated: October 10, 2007
The Jacques Thibaud String Trio will visit Denison University under the sponsorship of the Vail Visiting Artist program and give a public concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 16) in Burke Recital Hall. Named after an early 20th century violinist who was known for his warmth of expressive tone and fine dynamics, the trio won the 1999 Bonn Chamber Music Competition just five years after its founding at the Berlin School of Art. Members of the trio are: Burkhard Maiss;, violinist; Philip Douvier, violist; and Bogdan Jinu, cellist.
The ensemble has performed throughout Europe, Japan, Canada and the United States and received critical acclaim. The New York Times called their playing "spontaneous and commanding."
They have appeared at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully Hall, at the New York City Frick Collection museum, the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and in cities across the continent from Boston to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
The Jacques Thibaud Trio served as the ensemble-in-residence at the 2001 Florida International Festival, appeared at the 2006 Mostly Mozart Festival, and has performed at some of Europe's most prestigious festivals. They will appear at the Kumho Festival in Seoul, Korea this year. They also have toured with flutist Eugenia Zukerman and in Canada with Anton Kuerti as guest pianist.
