The 30th season of the Vail Series at Denison University opens with Chanticleer, the Grammy award-winning ensemble, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, in Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). A limited number of tickets may be offered for sale to the general public at $15.00 if space allows. Details will be posted at vailseries.org or contact 740-587-6557 for more information.
Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker magazine, Chanticleer is an “orchestra” of a capella vocal performance, with a seamless blend of 12 male voices ranging from countertenor to bass. The breadth of the group’s repertoire spans seven centuries, with original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to new music. Based in San Francisco, Chanticleer is named for the “clear-singing” rooster in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.
Chanticleer also involves thousands of young people annually in its extensive education program, which includes in-school clinics and workshops. Now in the ensemble’s 32nd year, Chanticleer makes its Vail Series premiere with this performance. To learn more about the group visit www.chanticleer.org.
Endowed by a generous gift from the late Mary and Foster McGaw in honor of Jeanne Vail, class of 1946, the Vail Series brings to campus the world’s premier performers, as well as new musical talents, enriching the artistic experience of the entire Denison Community.
