Violinist and Pianist Duo To Perform at Denison

Professors Scott Conklin and Jason Sifford from the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, Iowa, will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Burke Recital Hall (240 West Broadway). The concert is free and open to the public.

The performance will include six pieces of music from five different composers that include Ching-chu Hu, William Bolcom, Maurice Ravel, Kevin Pots and John Corigliano. The six sections are compositions that feature the violin and piano.

Conklin is a soloist, chamber and orchestral violinist who has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He holds a bachelor of music from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a master of music and doctorate of musical arts degrees from the University of Michigan School of Music. Currently, Conklin is an assistant professor of violin at the University of Iowa School of Music, as well as a violin teacher at the Preucil School of Music.

Sifford is a pianist experienced in classics and jazz performance, theory, composition and aural skills. He holds degrees in piano performance and pedagogy from Missouri State University, Louisiana State University and the University of Michigan. He currently teaches at the Preucil School of Music.

Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Music, Hu is a composer and musician who’s music has been performed in the United States, England, Germany, Russia, Austria, China, Taiwan, and Australia. Recent honors have included composer-in-residence at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and guest composer at the American Music Week Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.
