GRANVILLE, Ohio—Steven Vogel, Brickman-Shannon Professor and chair of the philosophy department, will present a lecture, “Thinking Like a Mall,” at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, in room 210 of Denison University’s Samson Talbot Hall (350 Ridge Road). The lecture, sponsored by the Titus Hepp Lecture Series, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Kate Tull at 740-587-6387 or visit www.denison.edu. (Please note this lecture was originally scheduled at 4:30 p.m. but has been changed)

How do things like buildings differ morally from the kinds of “natural” objects more usually offered as examples of things we ought to protect and preserve? Vogel will examine the story of the City Center Mall in Columbus, demolished in 2009, and will ask whether tearing it down might have been morally wrong – and if not, why not.
