GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison University’s student Venture Philanthropy Club (VPC) will award a grant of $10,000 to the Licking County Coalition for Housing (LCCH) this spring. The LCCH will use the grant to fund an initiative aimed at their volunteer recruitment and utilization program, and to maximize their community outreach.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the students of the Denison Venture Philanthropy Club,” said Deb Tegtmeyer, executive director of the Licking County Coalition of Housing. “We look forward to putting their intellects and enthusiasm to use as we overhaul our website and expand our organization's capabilities and capacities for service in the future. And we expect the experience to be mutually beneficial — the students will get a hands-on look at how a small, locally based nonprofit operates, while we get a chance to better understand how a new generation of donors utilizes current media and technologies.”

One of the major components of the LCCH plan is a re-design of their website. In addition to general communications and a monthly newsletter, the new site will offer a volunteer-opportunities page, a calendar and events page, facts and myths about homelessness, and a link for donations of funds or usable household items.

Since its inception in 2008, through a donation of David Kuhns, a member of the Denison class of 1968, the VPC makes an annual grant of funds to a local organization in order to effect “positive and meaningful change in the lives of others.” The VPC also pledges approximately 200 hours of student services hours to assist the organization with its project. “Working alongside community partners allows us to steward our grant, to build relationships with community leaders, and to learn practical skills as we join the effort to create positive change,” says VPC chair Josh Goldman ’14.
