Denison University’s student Venture Philanthropy Club (VPC) announces its annual Request for Proposals (RFP) to local nonprofit organizations working to promote health and wellness in Licking County, Ohio. The VPC will select the proposal of one community organization to receive a grant of $5,000, to be implemented during spring 2011. Members of the VPC also will provide volunteer labor throughout the spring of 2011 to assist in the implementation of the proposed project. The proposals must be postmarked or received by Friday, Nov. 19.

The Venture Philanthropy Club was established in 2008 through a donation of Dave Kuhns, a member of the Denison class of 1968. Each year the VPC selects the proposal that will most increase the capacity of a community organization related to a given theme. Members of the VPC are then responsible for stewarding the gift and helping with the completion of the project. In 2008-09, the VPC supported the Save Our Homes Task Force with the organization of a “Borrowers Outreach Day,” an event providing assistance to those at risk of foreclosure. Last year, the VPC worked with the Children’s Reading Foundation of Licking County to encourage reading to children to improve literacy.

To request a copy of the RFP or for more information, please contact Ellie Thompson at 203-216-2742 or by e-mail at thomps_e@denison.edu. RFPs must be postmarked or received electronically by Friday, Nov. 19. Please note that only 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible, and the proposed project must take place in Licking County, Ohio.
