GRANVILLE, Ohio—A lecture, “Berlin: A City Facing Its Legacy,” will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, in room 207 of Denison University’s Fellows Hall (300 West Loop). The lecture, by Thorsten Wagner, an instructor with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, is sponsored by the Off-Campus Study Program and is free and open to the public. According to Wagner, Berlin’s history in modern times offers complex continuities and discontinuities. Most recently, it has grown into the political and cultural powerhouse of Europe. Berlin symbolizes today the demise of communism, a free and united Europe and the prime meeting point and bridge between the West and the East. On the ruins of two dictatorships, with spectacular architecture and new, remarkable institutions such as the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Museum, the city has to position itself in new ways between past and present.
