Pianist Yuja Wang Returns to Denison For Vail Residency, Performance

Posted: September 10, 2007

Yuja Wang, the internationally acclaimed young pianist who has twice appeared at Denison under the auspices of the Vail Series, will return this year under both the Vail artist-in-residence program and the Vail Series.

In a two-part residency, Wang will be on campus in September to work with faculty and students of the Denison University Orchestra in a collaborative exploration of a Mendelssohn piano concerto. She will join the Orchestra in concert in April for the performance of the work.

During the September visit, Wang will give a "short program of short pieces" from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday (Sept. 13) in Herrick Hall, which has been converted from a chemistry lecture hall to a new performance space. Given its lunchtime scheduling, the performance has been titled, "Music With a Bite."

The informal recital is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Audience members may bring a brown bag lunch or purchase one from an on-site sandwich cart.

Wang will return in the spring and perform the Mendelssohn concerto with the Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Chris Kim. She also will perform a solo recital program that evening (April 12) as the final presentation of the Vail Series for 2007-2008.
