Denison Beck Fund Hosts Ohio Poet Rosanna Warren

Denison University's Beck Lecture Series hosts poet Rosanna Warren, who is visiting under the sponsorship of the Ohio Poetry Circuit, at 8 p.m., Wednesday (Feb. 16) in the Barney Davis Board Room (200 West Loop). The reading is free and open to the public.

Warren is the author of several books of poetry includingDeparture(2003);Stained Glass(1993), which was named the Lamont Poetry Selection by the Academy of American Poets;Each Leaf Shines Separate(1984); andSnow Day(1981). In addition, she has published a translation of Euripides'Suppliant Women(1995) and edited several books such asThe Art of Translation: Voices from the Field(1989). Warren has received a number of awards including the Pushcart Prize, the Award of Merit in Poetry and the Witter Bynner Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the May Sarton Prize, a Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Award, and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies.

In the fall of 2000, Warren was The New York Times Resident in Literature at the American Academy in Rome. She is contributing editor ofSeneca Reviewand the poetry editor ofDaedalus. In 1999 Warren was elected a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets.

Warren earned a bachelor of arts degree from Yale University and a master's degree from The Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University. She is now Emma MacLachlan Metcalf professor of the humanities at Boston University and lives in Roslindale, Mass.
