Gay Activist Speaks at Denison

Mel White, activist and author of "Stranger at the Gate: To be Gay and Christian in America," will speak at Denison at 7:30 p.m. on Monday (April 5) in Burton Morgan lecture hall. The talk is free and open to the public.
White, who served as an evangelical minister, also was a ghostwriter for Jerry Falwell. In his book, White discusses his 25 years of being counseled, exorcised, electric-shocked, prayed for, and nearly driven to suicide because his church said that homosexuality was wrong. In 1991 he finally admitted he was a homosexual.
Now active in Soulforce, an interfaith movement he founded with his partner, White works to present his message at denominational national conventions and other church meetings. He also will speak at the First Baptist Church ofon April 4.
