Co-founder of "Take Your Child To Work Day" speaks at Denison
Date of Event: March 2, 2010
Posted: February 18, 2010
Marie Wilson, organizer, activist and founder of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, will lecture at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at Denison University’s Slayter Hall Auditorium (200 Ridge Road). The lecture titled “Add Women, Change Everything” is free and open to the public.
While president of the Ms. Foundation for Women, Wilson identified a need to develop women leaders, both current and future. She founded The White House Project, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization to advance women’s leadership in all communities and sectors. The organization’s award-winning program, “Vote, Run, Lead,” has trained more than 7,000 women to lead a political life. Wilson and The White House Project have been featured on national programs such as CNN, Good Morning America, Today and National Public Radio. She is also the founder of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day and author of “Closing the Leadership Gap: Add Women, Change Everything.”
The event is co-sponsored by the Sharp Lecture Series in American History, the Office of the Provost, and the Laura C. Harris Symposium. The late Dr. Laura C. Harris was a pioneer in the medical profession and the first woman ever to receive a medical degree from Syracuse University. The Laura C. Harris Endowment enhances and promotes the education of young women as students and as professionals and serves to promote the career opportunities and carry on the pioneering spirit of women students at Denison University.
