Denison Women's Choir Presents 'Music of Many Cultures'

Posted: November 6, 2006

One of Denison's newest choral groups -- the Denison Women's Choir -- will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 14) in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Granville. Conducted by Associate Professor Bonnie Borshay Sneed, coordinator of choral activities, the program is "Music of Many Cultures." The women will sing folksongs from several parts of the world. Music from American contemporary composers Stroope and Walker are also featured in the concert. Pianist Kristen Grimshaw and organist Scott Hayes will accompany the choir. The vocal soloists include sophomore Megan Ansbro (Conneaut), sophomore Kate Watts (Westerville), and freshmen Emily Stimpert (Worthington).

Sneed earned her bachelor's degree in music education from Furman University (S.C.), her master's degree in choral conducting from Southern Methodist University (Texas) and her doctorate from Michigan State University. Sneed has performed with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers for a weeklong workshop and performance of Verdi's "Requiem." She has served as editor for Renaissance choral octavos for National Music Publishing and has published articles and reviews in the Choral Journal. Last year, she published her own arrangement for choir and chamber orchestra of the "Finale" to Mahler's Symphony No. 2. She also has served as adjudicator for choral contests and festivals in several states and as one of the national judges for collegiate choirs auditioning for the 2005 American Choral Directors Association national choral convention. Previously she had served on the faculties of Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Alabama, Huntsville.
