Community Scholars

Residents of Licking County may opt to enroll at the University as community scholars. This opportunity grants any candidate who is 30 years of age or older the privilege of taking one course as an auditor for a nominal fee of $135 per semester. 

The courses are made available on a space available basis and a candidate's participation is contingent upon the faculty member's approval.  Some courses such as music lessons, studio art courses, and laboratories may have additional charges besides the $135 registration fee.  These courses are not special continuing education courses but rather are the courses in which our regular degree-seeking students are enrolled in as well.  A community scholar may participate in this program for as many semesters as he or she desires.

Licking County Scholars

Outstanding seniors from Licking County High Schools may apply to take a course for college credit while still enrolled as a student at their high school.  The course for which the student enrolls will be contingent upon space availability and the consent of the instructor.  The courses will be populated by Denison's degree-seeking students and should be transferable to other institutions or applied toward a Denison degree. 

In 2013-2014 the fee will be $268 per credit hour for a regular four credit course taken as a Licking County Scholar

Eligibility

Criteria for Admission to the Licking County Scholar Program are as follows:

1. A minimum High School grade point average of 3.40.

2. A letter of recommendation from an appropriate high school instructor testifying to the student's preparedness to take the desired course at Denison.

3. A letter from the high school guidance counselor or principal certifying the student's GPA and that he/she has permission to be absent from the High School during the time necessary to take the Denison University course.

4. Licking County Scholar Program application must be obtained from the Registrar's Office and completed and filed before the beginning of the semester for which the student is seeking enrollment.

Continuation in the program is contingent upon maintaining a 2.00 cumulative average at Denison University.  Application of these credits to the high school record and requirements for the high school diploma is the purview of the high school administrator.

Denison Employees & Spouses/Same-Sex Domestic Partners

Enrollment Overview

Denison University employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners, who are non-degree seeking students (not admitted through Admissions), are eligible to participate in this program and take course work for credit or audit. Enrollment is contingent upon space availability and faculty approval.  Students who fail to attain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average after two semesters will lose eligibility for participation in this program.  After two semesters of coursework have been completed, an eligible student (see relevant handbook) may elect to apply for admission (full-time, degree seeking) to the College.  Candidates eligible to apply for admission should arrange an interview with the Vice-President and Director of Admission before submitting an application.

Please understand, admission as a full-time, degree seeking student is not guaranteed and "student" candidates will be assessed using the same standards as any applicant to Denison University.  Employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners admitted to the College through Admissions may take a full course load (subject to the limited provisions of the education policy in the relevant handbook) and should not register under this process.  All Denison students are subject to University academic and administrative regulations.
