Ecclesia
We are a faith-based, Christian affirmation in assembly,
working together, acting in authenticity,
honesty and truthfulness, open to questioning and searching,
with a commitment to service to one another
and to the college community out of compassion and love.
Ecclesia, an ecumenical (multi-denominational) Christian worship service, is available to all members of the Denison community each Sunday while classes are in session. Services take place at 3:00 p.m. in Swasey Chapel.
In striving to offer a service with appeal to all Christian traditions, a blend of traditional and contemporary components is utilized in Ecclesia worship. Additional variations and special services include: Taize style services once each month, a Lessons and Carols Christmas Service, and a Paschal Vigil on Easter eve.
Ecclesia’s student leadership group, Chapel Council, assists the Chaplain, Reverend Mark R. Orten, and the Chaplaincy Intern, Kori Philips, with planning worship services and related programs, such as Bible Studies and retreats. Professor Kevin Wines of Denison’s Music Department serves as Music Director of the Program.
