Major Violations at Denison

Behaviors that actually or potentially endanger the health and safety of others, that damage property, that interfere with the community rights and standards process, or that relate to Denison’s standard regarding drugs, shall be treated as major violations of the student code. Where a student is responsible for a major violation, the hearing body shall consider in its deliberation issuing to the student a sanction of Disciplinary Probation, Disciplinary Suspension or Disciplinary Expulsion, any of which may be issued following a single occurrence of a major violation.

Major violations include (but are not limited to):

  1. conduct that endangers the health or safety of any person including serious cases of sexual misconduct;
  2. drug-related violations;
  3. possession or use of firearms or other dangerous weapons;
  4. behavior that violates fire and life-safety regulations, including arson, tampering with fire and other life-safety equipment, causing a false fire alarm, or behavior that otherwise compromises the fire safety of the campus;
  5. conduct that seriously interferes with the community rights and standards process;
  6. hazing; and/or
  7. conduct that occurs when a student is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and when that conduct endangers a students’ personal health or safety, or the safety of others.
