The governing documents of the University provide that the President shall be responsible for the discipline of the University and for executing measures concerning its administration, as delegated by the Board of Trustees. Accordingly, the President is responsible for the Student Code of Conduct and the community rights and standards process and has the authority to intervene at any point in the process deemed necessary to maintain the safety of individuals, protect property, protect the continuation of the educational process, and preserve the integrity of the University.

The Vice President for Student Affairs shall be designated by the President to provide oversight to the operation of the Student Code of Conduct, and may develop policies for the administration of the program and procedural rules for the conduct of hearings that are consistent with provisions of the Student Code of Conduct. In general, the Assistant Dean of Students / Director of Community Rights and Standards shall have responsibility for the operation of the community rights and standards process

As situations may arise that are not addressed by the Student Code of Conduct, the Vice President for Student Affairs shall be granted the authority to exercise his or her judgment in emergency situations, which can include the issuance of temporary rules and regulations.

The University reserves the right to make rules and/or amend current regulations as deemed necessary for the protection of property and/or the general welfare of students.

Unless otherwise specified by the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Students / Director of Community Rights and Standards shall serve as the advisor to the Community Rights and Standards Board, herein "the CRSB." This advisor shall attend all hearings before the Community Rights and Standards Board and is responsible for helping to ensure that the CRSB procedures are followed and that the rights of the accused student are respected. The advisor to the CRSB does not participate in questioning or in discussions of findings or sanctions.

Decisions made by a community rights and standards body shall be final pending the normal appeal process

A community rights and standards body may be designated as a mediator within the student community in cases that do not involve a violation of the Student Code of Conduct
