Make it happen

So you want to change the world. How do you take your next step?

Denison students are exploring the answers this week, during a six-day social entrepreneurship workshop called “Make It Happen,” which is offered by Denison’s Burton D. Morgan Program in Liberal Arts & Entrepreneurship.

“As a senior I have asked myself, ‘What’s next?’” says Thomas Schultz ’11. “I see there is an ever increasing demand for people who can drive innovation and bring people together to create positive and sustainable changes for the betterment of society.”

The students are talking to folks like Janet Schultz, the director of Early Awareness and A Call to College, an organization that motivates students to pursue a college education; Michael Jones, CEO and president of Local Matters, an organization that teaches children about fresh foods and makes local foods more accessible; and Susan Studer King ’96, whose company, Buckeye Blooms, grows and arranges organic flowers for green weddings and special events.

The students are going off-campus, too, taking a field trip to visit ENERGIZE Clinton County in Wilmington, Ohio. They’ll be meeting with people who, on a grassroots level, are networking and advancing solutions for local growth.

A week full of energy, good spirits, ample carbs, and late-night talks wraps up Friday following the students’ presentations on their own visions for the future. The process of bringing those dreams to life? That begins next week.
