Hats off to Holbrook

Hal Holbrook ’48 in Fox’s “Sons of Anarchy.”

Hal Holbrook ’48 is seriously busy. He may be 85 years old, but his distinguished career as one of America’s most respected stage and screen actors is hot as a rocket. Even that media-darling Betty White has nothing on this man. Get this:

  • You’ll see Holbrook, who is an Emmy- and Tony-Award-winner and Oscar nominee, in a recurring role on NBC’s new conspiracy thriller, “The Event,” which premiers this Monday, Sept. 20, and he’s guest-starring on Fox’s “Sons of Anarchy” as Gemma’s (Katey Sagal) father. He also stars in the critically acclaimed film “That Evening Sun,” which recently was released on DVD, and he will appear in the 2011 film “Water for Elephants.”
  • Oh, yeah, and on Nov. 30 he’ll hit the stage to help to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Mark Twain’s birth with a special performance of his award-winning “Mark Twain Tonight” at the Clemens Center in Elmira, N.Y.
  • In recognition of Holbrook’s well-deserved limelight, NPR recently rebroadcast its 2009 interview, “Hal Holbrook: A Lifetime of Diverse Roles.”
