Making a splash

Biology majors Jennifer Clemmer ’11 and Eliza Miller ’11 aren’t afraid to make a splash. As part of the Summer Scholar Program, they explored neighboring ponds to discover the relationship between the invasive mosquitofish and native bluegill.

With the help of Associate Professor of Biology Jessica Rettig, the pair examined the foraging and competitive behaviors of the fish. Clemmer and Miller plan to further understand the ponds’ ecosystems by combining data and continuing their studies through Senior Research.

Jennifer,
Way to go! How interesting! This is the kind of work we do with our Nolichucky River Watershed group.
