Moot is the point

Juniors Steven Profitt and Christina Bazak

The issue is no longer open for discussion—the Moot Court crew took first prize in its regional competition and earned several additional accolades.

Juniors Christina Bazak (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.), and Steven Profitt (Carlisle, Ohio), grabbed the number one spot in the contest. As a result, the dynamic duo will miss a bit of Ohio’s winter when they head to New Orleans in January for the national competition.

Two other Denison teams were tapped for at-large bids. Lee Matheson ’13 (Upper Arlington, Ohio) with Mark Stanton ’12 (Hamilton, N.J.), and Chelsea Glassmann ’12 (Cincinnati, Ohio) with Haley Hudler ’13 (Fort Myers, Fla.), will be heading south, too, for a shot at the title.

All in all, from a field of 72 competitors, Denison’s team posted seven of the top 25 individual orators, with three in the top five. Mallory Hinz ’14 (Birmingham, Mich.) was ranked 2nd, Matheson 4th, and Profitt 5th. Bazak was ranked 12th, Patrick Kolehouse ’13 (Belmont, Mich.) 14th, Hudler 18th, and Glassmann rounded out the seven with a rank of 22.

Two additional teams made it to the second round of competition, Hinz and Kolehouse, and Peter Hurford ’14 (Cincinnati, Ohio) with Tenniecia Williams ’12 (Chicago, Ill.).
