Sitting on a comfy couch on the second floor of Slayter Hall, Stephanie Fois ’12 (Mamaroneck, NY) practically glows with excitement after her recent trip to Grand Rapids, Mich., on behalf of the University Programming Council (UPC).

There, she and five other student delegates accepted awards for “Best Website,” “You Choose,” and “Most Spirited School” at the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) conference. The event boasted about 100 colleges and universities from six states, and the honors bestowed on Denison’s UPC were voted by those student and faculty delegates.

“It’s been hard work—but very rewarding,” Fois says.

UPC is a student organization dedicated to diverse programming on campus. This semester, they’ve hosted tons of events, including trips to Cedar Point and the Short North, and appearances by authors, singer-songwriters, and comedians—like Jay McCarroll from Project Runway, author Rebecca Skloot, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

Fois joined UPC as a first-year student because she wanted to be part of the decision-making about the schedule of concerts and lectures. Since then, she has made other contributions, too, like having a hand in the redesign of UPC’s now award-winning website.
